Windows Live Search
Well If you think that Microsoft’s Live Search Cashback was a stupid program to promote it’s search engine, Microsoft might be on a trend of doing all sorts of unusual things to make Live Search Popular. Recently Microsoft did a complete redesign of the Live Search US portal.
Try to guess what the redesign is all about?- A huge Background images! Well, according to the Live Search Team the background image has been added “to find the best way to enhance users’ sense of discovery, surprise, and delight while balancing engineering realities for a great user experience.â€

Microsoft has tried to make the images sort of interactive by peppering it with hotspots which when clicked will display bits and pieces of information about the image as well as link to related search results. In addition, the images also changes randomly, so it will not bore users with the same background image over and over again.
Microsoft however assures all its Live Search users that the images will not in any way interfere with their daily search activities. The hotspots would gleam when the first time the Live Search page loads and it will slowly disappear into the night as the user do a search. To make it appear again, users just have to mouse over on the hotspots.
Barry wrote, this is just another way for Microsoft to generate more search queries, “i.e. come play the Live Search home page scavenger hunt, if you will”.
